iall f. [iəɫ̪] ‘thong, strap, leash’. Mackenzie (1910, 384) derives this word from ON àl f. ‘thong, leather strap’, although McDonald (2009, 338) suggests the loan is unlikely as other authorities do not consider it. SG iall derives from EG íall regularly. ON à would be expected to yield SG à [ɑː] in this context (Cox 2022, 146), and SG iall could not formally derive from ON àl.
